How and why Neck Sofa® was created!

Like many successful products, the Neck Sofa® was created to meet a critical need: a more structured, therapeutic, and comfortable neck support pillow. The journey began when AJ, the co-inventor, suffered severe whiplash after a head-on car accident. Although doctors suggested surgery, they couldn’t guarantee improvement and even warned that it might worsen her condition. Choosing not to undergo surgery, AJ sought relief through various therapies, from acupuncture to spinal injections and specialized exercise programs, but nothing provided lasting relief. She spent years and a significant amount of money, all while relying on pain medication.

Whiplash sufferers understand how crippling the pain can be. AJ’s symptoms went beyond neck pain—she experienced severe ringing in her ears, dizziness, nausea, and constant exhaustion, making everyday life impossible. The accident had drastically altered her life.

After trying countless treatments with no success, AJ stopped them altogether and began searching for a neck support pillow. She tested many types, including inflatable, beaded, and hard memory foam pillows, but none provided the support she needed. Most followed the same basic U-shaped design, which was too low for proper head and neck alignment, and many were uncomfortable. It was surprising to find that no real advancements had been made to improve neck pillow design. Realizing this gap in the market, AJ and her husband Gabe decided to create their own solution. Gabe, passionate and determined, believed they could develop a pillow that would not only help AJ but also millions of others suffering from similar pain.

The first step was identifying the shortcomings of existing pillows: inadequate support, poor height for the neck and head, low-quality materials, and general discomfort. AJ and Gabe knew that if they could design a pillow that was both comfortable and structurally supportive, they would have a winning product. The breakthrough came when they developed an inner support structure combined with soft memory foam for optimal comfort, flexible enough to fit most neck sizes.

After two years of research, development, and using AJ as a test subject, they invested their life savings to bring the Neck Sofa® to life. The result was a product with seven U.S. patents and numerous international ones. The Neck Sofa® is the only neck pillow on the market with a combination of inner support and soft, lightweight memory foam. Unlike traditional pillows, it can be used in 12 different positions, offering customizable pain relief and support for the head and neck.
