How to prevent on the job neck pain?
Neck pain is caused by many factors, but for those of us with repetitive or continuous jobs, such as lifting, sitting at a computer, or other occupations such as these, it is often times the act of doing the same thing repetitively or for a long period of time that causes the real back and neck pain.
This is because the cause of neck pain is the strain we put on our neck, shoulders, and sometimes even our back. You might feel pain at the base of your skull, a knot in your neck or near your shoulders, or maybe your neck is super stiff. These each can lead to headaches or migraines, and they will slow you down from getting your work completed on time. Serious neck pain that is left untreated can limit one’s mobility and even seriously affect someone’s ability to do their job properly.
If your neck pain is worse at the end of the work day, this is a very good sign that your work is causing some, if not a majority, of your neck pain. This is because at work we often perform repeated or prolonged activities that affect the muscles, ligaments, and joints in our neck. This can be from anything from holding one’s head forward to read a computer screen to lifting heavy boxes day in and day out.
The key to protecting your neck is to keep you head, neck, and spine in, what specialist call, the “neutral” position. This simply means that one’s head and neck remain in the natural position to the spine. This keeps the strain off of the muscles and tendons. One of the best ways to do this, is with an amazing neck pillow. When you find the perfect neck pillow, you’ll know it. You can feel it holding you head in the proper position, and the neck pillow will keep you neck from aching. They are also great to use while at work.
To your comfort… Gabe
